Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Year 5

Welcome to Year 5, here at St Mary’s school.

Our class page will provide all the information that you will need to know regarding the year 5 curriculum.

Please find detailed below some useful information about our curriculum and school day.

Miss Fendell, Learning Support Assistant

Mrs Maxfield, Class teacher (Wednesday afternoons)

School day timings

Children to line up by 8:45am

School starts at 8:50am

School finishes at 3:30pm

Curriculum

Our curriculum is wide and varied, encompassing daily Maths, Writing and Reading lessons, with weekly French, RE, PE, PSHE, and Music lessons. We also study Science, History, Geography, DT, Art and Computing in unit blocks.

PE days

Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesdays. Please ensure that children bring a labelled PE kit into school on these days for children to change into.

Homework

From Spring 2024, I will be setting children a small amount of homework. This will compromise either a Maths or Writing activity (both at times) that will help to develop children’s fluency and skills, based on the learning in class. Reading of the class text will also continue as part of our Reading curriculum.

If you have any questions or information that you would like to pass onto me, please either catch me in the playground at the beginning or end of the day. Alternatively, you can leave a message with the school office for me to contact you.

Looking forward to the new year ahead

Mrs Calvert
