Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Safeguarding

At St Mary's C of E Primary School, safeguarding is of paramount importance. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all our pupils, staff, and visitors. Our safeguarding policies and procedures are designed to create a secure environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

We believe that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, and we work diligently to ensure that all staff members are trained and equipped to recognise and respond to any concerns. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Laura Oakes, along with the safeguarding team Mr Paul Galvin and Mrs Fiona Rolls-Drew (DDSL's), regularly reviews and update our policies to align with the latest statutory guidance, including 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' (DfE, 2024)

Our approach to safeguarding includes:

  • Conducting thorough background checks on all staff and volunteers.
  • Providing regular training and updates on safeguarding practices.
  • Implementing robust procedures for reporting and addressing concerns.
  • Fostering a culture of vigilance and openness where pupils feel safe to speak up.

We also engage with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to safeguarding. By working together, we can create a safe and nurturing environment that supports the academic and personal development of every child at St Mary's
