PE and Sport Premium
What is Sports Premium?
Since 2013-14, the government has been providing funding for schools to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding. The money goes directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.
At St Mary's C of E Primary School, we are dedicated to promoting physical education and a healthy lifestyle among our pupils. The Sports Premium funding, provided by the government, plays a crucial role in enhancing our PE and sports provision.
We believe that an innovative and varied PE curriculum, along with extra-curricular opportunities, has a positive influence on the concentration, attitude, and academic achievement of all our children. Our vision is for all pupils to leave St Mary's having achieved good physical literacy skills and an increased willingness to engage in a range of daily physical activities
The Sports Premium funding is utilised in several ways to benefit our students:
- Upskilling Teachers: We invest in staff development by providing quality training and signing up for the School Sports Partnership with Active Melton and Rutland County Council. This helps develop teaching and subject knowledge in Physical Education for all teachers and Learning Support assistants.
- Sporting Events and Competitions: The funding enables us to participate in off-site sporting events and competitions, such as cross-country, gymnastics, football, and hockey tournaments. This not only enhances our pupils' physical skills but also fosters teamwork and sportsmanship
- Sports Equipment and Facilities: We invest in new sports equipment and improve our facilities to provide a safe and stimulating environment for physical activities
