Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Year 1 - Tiggers

Tiggers at White Post Farm

Tiggers had a wonderful day at White Post Farm. Merv taught us lots about the animals.

Look at our fantastic dinosaur masks

We have been so busy in Tiggers this half term. In Literacy, we have worked on traditional tales, poems about nature and are reading Dear Greenpeace to support our work in letter writing. In Maths, we have worked on shape, counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and adding numbers. We have really enjoyed our topic on dinosaurs making dinosaur eggs, drawing dinosaurs and finding out about dinosaurs by looking at their teeth.

Children in Need

Thank you so much for your fantastic contributions, cakes and costumes! We have raised a lot of money throughout the school to contribute towards Children in Need. The children looked fantastic on Friday and were all very excited. We spent the day learning about why we raise money and what it goes towards. The children had a superhero themed day and enjoyed designing masks and characters.

Homework

Please ensure that your homework is in school by the date specified in the homework book. It can make it difficult to mark the books in time for them to go out the next day if they are not handed in on time. If there are any problems, then I am always available to talk to!!

Nativity

Thank you to all parents who have been supporting their children in learning their lines. Not all Year One's have lines to learn but I am really impressed so far! It really is going to be a fab production.

Hedgehog Art

The children have made the most out of this wonderful Autumn weather that we have been having! We have spent time outside in the school grounds, observing the changes between Summer and Autumn. The leaves have been changing from green into the most vibrant oranges, reds and browns so we decided to use them in our Art lessons.

The class used a template of a hedgehog and then collected fallen leaves to use for the hedgehog's body. Don't they look effective! The children were so enthused by this lesson and had a fab time in the great outdoors!

1st October 2015

We have packed lots of learning in this week! I can't believe we only have two weeks left of the first half term.. We have covered lots of topics in both English and Maths!

We have just finished our 'Money' unit of work and have started learning how to tell the time using an analogue clock. We even made our own clocks to use in the lessons!

25th September

The Tiggers have had a fantastic week! Take a look at what we have been learning about:

English - Weather Poetry

We have been learning poems about rainy days and collecting words to create our own! We worked in groups to learn a given poem and then we created our own soundtrack using percussion instruments! Our favourite poem is called Rain.

The Rain

The rain has silver sandals

For dancing in the spring,

And shoes with golden tassels

For summer frolicking.

Her winter boots have hobnails

Of ice from heel to toe,

Which now and then she changes

For moccasins of snow.

Maths: Money

We have learnt about different coins and their values. We have used practical activities to learn how to add coins of different value to each other. It is a very tricky concept for children to understand so I am really pleased with how their learning has progressed this week. We are particularly focusing on 'counting on' when adding coins together. This will then create the foundations for adding larger denominations and also working out change.

http://www.ictgames.com/payForIt/index.html This is an interactive game which tasks you with scanning the item and choosing the correct coins to pay. You can adjust the level by pressing the 'Choose level' in the top right hand corner.

PSHE

We have been busy preparing our display for Anti-Bullying week (16th-20th November) We have been discussing what action to take if a) We see someone being unkind to another child and b) If someone is unkind to us. We have been learning about the importance of reporting concerns to somebody we trust.

PE

We are learning about co-ordination and how this underpins all physical activity. During this half term, we have learnt how to use different parts of our body for travelling and balancing. We have also learnt how to play 'Ice and Sun'.

16th Day

You should have all received your child's 16th Book. Please have a look and share your thoughts by filling in the comments box in the front cover!
