Governing Committee
St Mary's School Governors
This page will give you an outline of the role of our Governing Committee, who we are and our roles.
As Governors we enjoy working in partnership with the Head Teachers, parents, teachers, pupils, the Rise Multi Academy Trust and education authorities. By doing this we ensure St Mary’s Primary School is a caring and positive place to learn and enabling our children to flourish and succeed. We welcome any comments or suggestions which will help us to maintain and improve our school.
Please feel free to contact any of us directly in person or via the school office email; mark the 'subject' as FAO School Governors PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL; put your correspondence in an encrypted attachment. Alternatively, post through the school letterbox marking the envelope FAO School Governors 'PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL'.
We look forward to meeting you at school and at our events.

Governance at St Mary’s
St Mary’s is part of the Rise Multi Academy Trust. As Governor’s our key responsibilities are:
- Ensuring the school is run effectively and provides our children with the best possible education
- Challenging and supporting the school to achieve more
- Taking a strategic view, setting policies, plans and targets
- Monitoring and evaluating results
- An oversight of the school’s finances, including the annual budget and ongoing spending
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils and the performance management of staff.
In doing this we are accountable for how St Mary’s is run to parents and to Rise Multi Academy Trust.
As Governors we are not involved in the detail of the day-to-day management of the school – this is the responsibility of the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team. We work in partnership with them, to support and challenge the work of the school. Therefore, the Governors are continually evaluating and monitoring the work of the school against agreed policies, plans and targets.
We do not get involved in with individual pupil issues unless there is a serious incident or appeal. Foundation and Trust Governors represent the wider local and church community. Our Parent Governors represent the interest of all pupils at St Mary’s and not just those of their own children.
The full Governing Committee meet once a term to monitor the strategic direction of the school. All our Governors visit classes and attend assemblies and events. We continually work with Headteachers and staff to keep updated with developments in teaching and learning across the curriculum and the wider school.
Our Governors
As Governing Committee, we represent of all the different groups involved in our school: local community, staff, parents, and the Church. We are all volunteers and we give our time and skills for the benefit of the children and our school. The Rise Scheme of Delegation outlines the Advocacy roles within our Committee. A Governor’s term of office is four years from appointment.
